Why You Need To Trim Your Ends:
- When my ends start forming knots- 4c hair is prone to knots because of how tight the curls are
- When my ends are dry
- When my ends start to snap when brushing
- When I notice a lot of shedding at the ends
- When my hair is more difficult to untangle than normal
When trimming your ends, make sure to use hair sheers, not kitchen scissors or anything like that. You want to use sheers specifically for hair as these scissors have sharp blades designed to giving you a clean and smooth cut. Other scissors run the risk of having blades that are less sharp and using them can cause your ends to split easily and you will have to cut your hair again more frequently. Here are some shears from Ulta that I recommend:
To trim my ends, I stretched my hair on low and cool heat. I knew I wasn't going to get a full stretch, but I just needed it stretched long enough to see where my ends where splitting and uneven. After trimming, how do you guys wear your hair?! I live in LA and it gets really hot during the day, so I tend to wear my hair up and in a ponytail a lot, even when I'm wearing a twist out. Here are some other quick and easy ways to style your hair when its stretched:
3 QUICK + EASY STYLES ON STRETCHED HAIR
LET IT FLOW, SIS:

Don't get me wrong, I love having thick, full, healthy, natural, curly hair. But, often, and lately, I miss running my hands through my straight hair and letting it fall as long as it can down my back. I miss letting it flow over my shoulders and swinging it from ear to ear when I feel like it. So, whenever I stretch my hair, with heat and without, I let it flow for a day or two. Because I don't use much heat at all, even when stretching, my hair quickly reverts even with the slightest bit of humidity. And living in LA where the weather is often above 75 degrees, humidity is inevitable.
CLASSIC PONYTAIL:

When the humidity gets to be too much to maintain my straight tresses, I put it up in a ponytail. I actually LOVE the look of a slick ponytail and bun. To me, it allows your face to be the star of the show, while still reminding the haters that you're not bald headed :). This day, I made a loose ponytail- I didn't pull it back too tight. It was perfect for a casual day of errands, but I still felt put together and presentable.
PUT IT IN A BUN:

As the saying goes, less is more. Even more than ponytails, there's just something so elegant about a simple bun. This style lets your face have all the attention! When the weather just gets too hot and humid, or if my make up is done really well, or when I'd like for my outfit to do more of the talking than my hair, I opt for a sleek bun. I love how effortless this look is, while still being just as feminine. It's also never a bad idea to let your jewelry and accessories shine while wearing this look!
