This post is about how to wear a hat with thick natural hair.

Hats are a uniquely bold way to complete your outfit- and save a bad hair day, if need be. They add character and personality in a similar way a leather jacket does, or an over the knee boot. I absolutely love hats of all styles and used to wear them often. However, hats have become much more difficult for me to wear as my hair has gotten longer and thicker. They are not the easiest to wear over thick natural hair because as soon as you put them on, your hat pops right off (it's actually a hilarious visual). As difficult as it can be to comfortably wear a hat with natural hair, I was recently able to pull off a look that I will definitely be trying again soon.
This post shares a way to wear a fedora hat with thick natural hair.
To me, there is something very sophisticated and mysteriously artistic about hats. They are not everyones cup of tea, but the moment I put on a hat, I feel even more put together, strong and in control. Somehow, they have a way of making me feel like I am in my own world and control of who I let in it.

Recently, my friend and I were going out to brunch and I wanted to jazz up my outfit with a cute fedora hat that I got from Shein. The only way I could get it over my head was to pull my hair into a tight low pony tail bun like this:

It's important to make sure your hair is slicked down really well, especially on the sides. This will allow your hat to sit comfortably on your head without being too tight and giving you a headache. I hate that.

It's also really important for your ponytail to sit really low. If it sits too high on the back of your head, your hat won't sit right. Instead, it will sit up in the back and will fall too far forward and over your forehead.

A hat that fits too tight is the absolute worst. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a rush and didn't give myself enough time to lay my hair down flat before putting on a hat. I would pull my hat over my head as tight as possible only to have a splitting headache within the hour.
Whether you decide to wear your hair down or in a low bun like I did, a hat completes your outfit in the most elegant and bold way. So, most importantly, wear your hat with confidence and pride. I paired my fedora hat with a black and sheer sleeved top also from Shein. You can shop the look below!
