Wearing your hair in its natural state is a really beautiful thing. I love wearing my hair natural, but I have to be honest, it has it challenges!

Backstory of my natural hair journey:
I stopped getting my hair relaxed in high school and never looked back. I don't remember why I stopped, but I just did. At that time, most black girls were not wearing their hair in its natural state- it was either permed or pressed. I didn't start wearing my hair in its natural state (no heat) until I was out of college. Between that time, I was blow drying and straightening my hair (on the highest heat setting) once or twice a month! Whenever I saw that I had new growth coming in or whenever my edges would get fuzzy, I would pull out the hot comb and flat iron.
Currently:
I hardly ever blow dry or press my hair now and mainly keep my hair in twists or wear a protective style (braids, twists, wigs). These habits have aided in my hair growth and helped to maintain its length and thickness.
This post is all about different ways to wear a scarf or head wrap.
WHY WEAR A HEAD WRAP
If you're like me, some days you just don't feel like doing your hair or dealing with it. Here are some other reasons you may want to add a hair scarf to your look of the day:
- Religious or cultural reasons
- Because they're super cute, unique + stylish
- To enhance your outfit
- You don't feel like doing or dealing with your hair
- To cover your protective style
- Your hair is still wet from a previous wash
- You're having a bad hair day
There are so many different styles and prints of scarfs that can really play up on your overall look. Hair scarfs can be paired with a nice casual outfit like a t-shirt and jeans, or even with a more dressier ensemble, like dress pants and a nice blouse. I tend to gravitate to neutral tone solid colored scarfs, but there are TONS on the market to choose from with different patterns, colors and prints. Whichever style you prefer, always wear a silk or satin scarf to protect your hair from breakage. Not cotton. Have fun with it!
7 WAYS TO WEAR A HEAD WRAP
SIMPLE TOP KNOT

If you prefer simple looks, this option may be great for you. It's simple and the top knot adds a minimal touch of glam 🙂
FULL WRAP W/ A TWIST

This style is less subtle than the first look, but I loveee how the ends create a cute criss cross pattern at the top.
GODDESS VIBES

The third look will pull out the dainty fairy princess in you. I just adore this style. From afar, some may thing you're wearing a really unique headband, but nope..it's a scarf!
CLASSIC

When I first started wearing scarfs, this is how I would wear mine. All the time! I had so many different colors and would pair them with specific outfits, but I always wore my scarfs this way. I wasn't as creative with my scarf looks back then, but that's okay because this style was a hit..and still is. Pull each end around your shoulders or pull both ends around one shoulder. Try it!
CLASSIC W/ A TUCK

This style is just like the CLASSIC style above, except for the ends are tucked in the back. This style would be nice for a more professional setting where you don't want the distraction of the ends hanging out or a top knot.
TWIST & TUCK

The twist and tuck is a style that I wear often. I like sliding my head wrap back just a little so that you have a small peak of my hair line. With your full bun exposed, while keeping the perimeter of your hair concealed, this style offers a nice balance of modesty and sass, perfectly suitable for both the work place and a night on the town.
ROSETTE TURBAN

Just because all of your hair is covered doesn't mean you can't be still be glamorous. This style proves just that. Arguably one of the most popular ways to wear a head wrap, and for good reason. It's just so cute! The top knot at the front is so bold yet elegant and really pulls the attention to your face.
